What is a C/TPA?

A Consortium/Third-Party Administrator (C/TPA) is a company authorized under 49 CFR Part 382 to manage DOT drug and alcohol testing programs on behalf of employers and owner-operators who operate commercial motor vehicles.
Under federal law, every CDL driver subject to FMCSA authority must participate in a random drug and alcohol testing program. Owner-operators — and small carriers without in-house compliance staff — cannot self-administer this program. A C/TPA does it for them.

Yes. You can transfer your consortium membership at any time. Vertical Identity handles the transfer documentation and coordinates with your previous administrator to ensure there is no gap in your compliance record. Your testing history follows your DOT number.
